How to Protect Your Computer From Hackers

As more and more of our lives are based online, security against hackers becomes more important. Hackers have two goals: creating chaos and stealing money. Hackers steal your personal information to charge you without authorization on your accounts or disrupt your business by using malware.

Regularly update your software. Make sure you update your software regularly. Many hackers gain access to computers through outdated software. Updates fix these vulnerabilities and make it more difficult for hackers to gain access to your system.

Install a firewall on all your devices. Firewalls are network systems designed to control incoming and outgoing traffic on your computer. Windows and macOS have built-in firewalls but it is suggested that you use a third-party application to protect mobile devices and home networks.

Examine your network and device names. Avoid using personal identifiers like your last name or phone number in these names, which could allow hackers easy access to your data.

Be careful when discussing your work with others. Even the smallest details, such as the place you were born or the names of your pets, can be used to assist hackers break into security systems.
